The top American diplomat visited the American University in Cairo to deliver a highly anticipated keynote address.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo made the speech Thursday and began by saying he was speaking on the truth, which highlighted America’s positive influence in the Middle East.
Pompeo continued by emphasizing the importance of American-Egyptian ties and reiterating the commitment to countering Iran’s “malign activity.”
He slammed former administrations’ Middle Eastern foreign policy saying the United States will no longer be blind to Iran’s desire to dominate the region.
Pompeo reiterated the United States remains committed to fighting terror and preventing the ISIS caliphate from reemerging.
Earlier on Thursday, Pompeo met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to address fighting terror and protecting religious freedom.
He is expected to travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait in the coming days.
