The Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, reiterated the American stance against Iranian aggression while kicking off a visit to the Middle East.
The top American diplomat made the remarks during a press conference in Jordan on Tuesday saying the United States will continue to counter the Islamic Republic’s “malign influence.”
This comes as the United States deliberates a withdrawal of its troops from Syria after President Trump announced the defeat of ISIS back in December.
Meanwhile, National Security Adviser John Bolton left Turkey Tuesday without meeting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who reportedly canceled the meeting.
Bolton has since clarified the United States will withdraw its troops after ensuring Kurdish safety, and the complete defeat of ISIS.
Both Bolton and Pompeo are expected to visit to a series of nations across the Middle East over the coming days.
