Vice President Mike Pence is expected to meet with Venezuela’s interim President Juan Guaido amid a series of violent political protests.
Vice President Pence will meet with Guaido in Colombia just days after Dictator Nicholas Maduro stopped aid trucks over the weekend.
The vice president is also expected to meet with the Lima Group as well, which is a body committed to releasing Venezuela from political instability.
Vice President Pence is expected to clarify the U.S. will continue to support the Venezuelan people as Guaido battles Maduro for power.
Some reports claim several people have died, and as many as 300 others have been injured amid the weekend’s political unrest.
Though the Venezuelan people have long suffered with food and medicine shortages, Maduro has mobilized the military to block aid shipments from around the world.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo slammed the violence via twitter on Sunday saying the U.S. will take action against anyone inhibiting the democratic process.
Demonstrators have also been taking to the streets protesting the Maduro regime, and have been involved in violent clashes with the pro-Maduro military.
