American, 13 Others Killed During Kenya’s Terror Attack

The State Department confirmed an American was among those killed during a terror attack Tuesday, which targeted a luxury hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.

Jason Spindler, business investment adviser and graduate of the University of Texas, was killed during the terror attack.

The company he worked for, I-DEV International, released a statement Wednesday confirming the news.

Spindler was a former Peace Corps member and, according to his mother, moved to Kenya to make a difference in “the third world in emerging markets.”

Kenya’s president, Uhuru Kenyatta, has since announced there is no longer a threat to the public and the buildings in the area have been secured.

Reports claim the attack lasted hours in the affluent Westlands neighborhood, as the militants targeted the complex with car bombs and fire.

Reports suggest at least four gunman were allegedly involved, and around 700 people were safely evacuated from the area.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
