Furloughed Worker’s Wife Wins Lottery Amid Government Shutdown

The wife of a federal worker won the Virginia lottery as federal workers missed their first paycheck amid the government shutdown.

Carrie Walls, whose husband works at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, received a check for $100,000 and a Ford Expedition late last week.

Walls said when she realized she won she cried, and “couldn’t believe it.”

The family plans on using the earnings to take a Disney vacation in the near future.

Meanwhile, the government shutdown has continued into day 24, as various democrats were under fire for embarking on a Puerto Rican vacation.

Walls won the jackpot out of 554,000 entries from the scratch-off she purchased at the beginning of December.
