President Trump announces he will delay the State of the Union Address, previously scheduled for January 29, until the partial government shutdown is over.
The president made the announcement on twitter late Wednesday saying, “This is her prerogative – I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over.”
His remarks come after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi notified the White House saying she would not allow the State of the Union Address to take place in the halls of Congress until the shutdown ends.
Previously, some reports suggested the president may consider holding a campaign-style rally near the border instead.
President Trump clarified in his tweet that would no long be a possibility.
The Senate is set to vote on dueling bills Thursday in hopes of ending the ongoing, partial government shutdown.
