Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is set to force a vote on the controversial Green New Deal.
McConnell made the announcement Tuesday saying, “We’ll give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the Green New Deal.”
The vote would force leftist 2020 presidential candidates to go on record with their support or lack thereof regarding the radical deal.
Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez authored the deal, which would essentially eradicate the airline industry and push the U.S. to rely only on renewable energy sources.
The deal has also come under fire for supposedly allowing financial security to people “unwilling to work,” and securing a job to everyone in the United States.
Democratic lawmakers say the deal comes in an effort to combat climate change, though it does not specify exactly how it will be funded.
The proposal aims to fulfill these requirements in the next 10 years.
