Senate Dems Block ‘Born Alive’ Bill Ensuring Medical Treatment For Infants Following Failed Abortions

Democrats in the Senate block legislation which would have punished health care professionals who do not try to save infants born alive after a failed abortion.

The Senators blocked the “born alive” bill in a vote Monday igniting political backlash from both sides of the aisle.

The legislation would have threatened five years of jail time for health care professionals who do not provide medical treatment following the failed procedure.

The bill would have also required them to ensure the infant would be taken to the hospital immediately following.

Three Democrats voted for the measure, including Senator Joe Manchin, Senator Bob Casey, and Senator Doug Jones.

President Trump weighed in on the vote slamming those who voted against it, citing the protection of infants as a nonpartisan issue.

The president said the vote will become one of the most shocking in congressional history.

Senators Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, and Kirsten Gillibrand all voted against the measure.
