POTUS Expected To Veto Resolution Halting National Emergency Declaration

President Trump is set to use the first veto of his presidency after the Senate passed a resolution halting his national emergency declaration.

The president made the announcement on twitter Thursday, though he had made his decision clear prior to the vote.

The Senate vote took place earlier on Thursday with the measure passing in a 59 to 41 vote.

There were a dozen GOP Senators who voted with Democrats to halt the declaration, which was announced last month in an effort to secure border wall funding.

Though the president has made it clear he expects backlash from the courts, he has clarified his decision is legal and he has every right to exercise his executive power.

It is unclear if there are enough votes to override the veto, which would require two-thirds of the vote.
