Celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti faces a federal indictment with 36 counts related to embezzlement, fraud, and not paying his taxes.
Avenatti was charged late Wednesday as the lawsuit alleges he stole from clients, committed perjury in bank proceedings, participated in wire and bank fraud, and did not pay his taxes.
The federal indictment alleged Avenatti stole from several clients, one being a paraplegic man.
The charges come just two weeks after Avenatti was charged on separate counts for allegedly trying to extort $24 million from Nike.
Aventti denies the latest allegations and has said he will plead not guilty to the charges.
I intend to fully fight all charges and plead NOT GUILTY. I look forward to the entire truth being known as opposed to a one-sided version meant to sideline me.
