The U.S. designated the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a “terrorist organization” as bilateral tension continues to heighten.
The announcement was made Monday, indicating Iran is a state sponsor of terror and the Guard actively facilitates it as well.
According to reports, Iran has already sculpted legislation designating the American military as a terrorist group in response to the move.
A Trump administration official reportedly weighed in on the decision saying the White House views the organization as an “active and enthusiastic participant in acts of terror.”
The decision comes as the White House has placed “maximum pressure” on the Islamic Republic in recent months as it continues to foster instability across the Middle East and abroad.
