The Coast Guard is searching for two missing firefighters who vanished off the coast of Florida during a fishing trip late last week.
Authorities had already searched nearly 5,000 miles by Sunday for Brian McCluney and Justin Walker after the pair set sail for 8A Reef, about 50 miles away, on Friday.
The duo left Port Canaveral on Friday, and their families alerted officials they were missing after they failed to return that night.
Family members have taken to social media to display their confidence in the pair’s survival skills, citing both military and first responder experience.
According to McCluney’s wife, he served in the U.S. Navy which is why she remains confident her husband will return citing the survival skills he has acquired through his experience as in the military and the fire department.
Reports claim McCluney and Walker were on a vessel belonging to McCluney’s late father, a vessel which his wife sad has told media outlets has had mechanical problems in the past.
McCluney is a firefighter with Jacksonville Fire and Rescue and Walker serves as a firefighter in Fairfax County Fire and Rescue in Virginia.
Several volunteers have accompanied the Coast Guard and other agencies in the search for the missing men.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the firemen is asked to call (904)714-7558.
