Cruz Leads Group of Republicans Urging Biden to Support Israel

Sen. Ted Cruz (R- Texas), joined by 12 GOP Senators, on Wednesday called on President Joe Biden to stand firmly with Israel amid the targeted terrorist attacks on the nation.

Cruz was joined by Sens. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Todd Young (R-Ind.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), according to a press release from Cruz’s office.

In his remarks, the Senator criticized Biden who took office, “and immediately began undermining Israel. He immediately began sending hundreds of millions of dollars to the Palestinian Authority, which is in bed with Hamas terrorists.”

In defense of our ally, Israel, who is being vilified by the left for responding to attacks, Cruz said, “Let me be clear: there is no moral equivalency between terrorists murdering innocent civilians and a sovereign nation defending itself against those terrorists.”

The Senator drew a stark contrast between Biden’s and former President Donald Trump’s treatment of Israel in a seven minute speech he posted on YouTube.

“Just six months ago, peace was flowering throughout the Middle East,” Cruz said. “The Abraham Accords were historic peace agreements between Israel and her Arab neighbors, and they were the result of strong and clear policies from the Trump administration.”

Cruz also noted that Trump fulfilled a promise that many other presidents had made, but did not keep, by moving the United States Embassy to Jerusalem.

In doing so, Trump signaled that “America stands resolutely with Israel.”

Not only did Cruz highlight the foreign policy failures of the Biden Administration, but he also slammed its handling of the border crisis, inflation, and gas shortages.

“We’re just four months into the Biden-Harris Administration and we’ve already seen the disasters on the policy front racking up one after the other,” said the Texas Senator.

Adding that the Biden Administration is not alone in undermining Israel as the “Democratic Party is…accusing Israel of engaging in terrorism,” namely including radical left Democrats such as “AOC, and Tlaib, and Omar.”

Senate Democrats “have an opportunity right now to decide where do they stand,” rather than go along with the anti-Israel wing of the party, said Cruz. The Senator closed by urging Biden to act: “President Biden ought to be standing with Israel and replenishing the Iron Dome munitions.”

Biden has since spoken with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi of Egypt to discuss “efforts to achieve a ceasefire that will bring an end to the current hostilities in Israel and Gaza,” the White House revealed in a readout on Thursday.

“They agreed that their teams would stay in constant communication toward that end and the two leaders would stay closely in touch,” the readout stated.

Israel and Hamas have reportedly agreed to an Egypt-brokered ceasefire to begin at 2 a.m. local time after 11 days of fighting, according to a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
