Trump To Visit “Disaster Zone” At the Southern Border

For the first time since leaving office, the 45th president will take a trip to the U.S.-Mexico border “disaster zone” alongside Texas Gov. Greg Abbott later this month.

After accepting the Lone Star State’s Republican governor’s invitation, Trump announced in a Tuesday night statement he will appear at the southern border on June 30 in a visit that will be open to the press.

Trump’s visit will put the spotlight on the border crisis which he describes as an “unmitigated disaster zone,” that Vice President Kamala Harris refuses to address.

“The Biden Administration inherited from me the strongest, safest, and most secure border in U.S history,” Trump reminded Americans in his statement. “And in mere weeks they turned it into the single worst border crisis in U.S history. It’s an unmitigated disaster zone.”

“What Biden and Harris have done, and are continuing to do on our border, is a grave and willful dereliction of duty,” he said, slamming the Biden administration’s inaction on the surge of migrants illegally crossing the border.

One of the issues Trump campaigned on the most throughout his first four years as president was border security and building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to stunt illegal immigration. After a long fight for funding, Trump was finally awarded the necessary financing to build a border wall, and boost border security, among other measures.

By the end of the Trump Administration, the United States was deporting more people than were entering the country illegally, The Heritage Foundation reported.

Then, in less than a month under President Biden, the number of immigrants illegally crossing into the U.S. was more than 6,000 per day which is six times the crisis level set by the Obama Administration.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, CBP encountered 180,034 persons attempting to cross the southern border in May 2021, representing a one percent increase from the previous month.

“We went from having border security that was the envy of the world to a lawless border that is now pitied around the world,” said Trump.

Now that America’s southern border has been essentially abandoned by the Biden-Harris administration, Abbott vowed on Tuesday to “finish what President Trump started.”

“Later this week, I will unveil our plans to build a border wall,” Abbott said. “The Lone Star State will do what Biden REFUSES to do – protect our citizens along the southern border.”

Trump stated the goal of his visit is to “hopefully shine a spotlight on these crimes against our Nation—and show the incredible people of ICE and Border Patrol that they have our unshakeable support.”
